With 2021 drawing to a close, I’ve been reflecting on the “new normal” (or not normal) wrought by the pandemic, climate change and growing inequity worldwide. Despite these crazy times, Jerry and I have continued to promote social causes in the long relay race for a safer, more just and peaceful world, understanding that all of us are inextricably interconnected, so we have a sacred obligation to bring love, hope and peace to everyone everywhere. The work never stops.
So, when the temperature drops and sunlight wanes, we can all take heart in knowing that every culture celebrates the power of light over darkness near the winter solstice. As the Brits say, we have to calm down and carry on. We have – and we know you have, too. Please share what you’ve been up to. How has COVID affected you? Do you have any special projects you’re particularly proud of?
For me, the whole year has been filled with reflection. I re-dug into my long-gestating book, The Power of Connectedness, with a foreword by Desmond Tutu. I was invited to be a contributor to Forbes Councils, which featured me as a Success Story. Speaking, teaching, coaching and doing what I love most: connecting, I gave many presentations, including to New York Magazine, FIFA and IMD Business School.
My company beCause Global Consulting, recognized as the Best Stakeholder Engagement Firm, was featured on an AI Magazine cover story. beCause helps individuals and organizations connect to their core purpose, connect across silos in their enterprises, connect to external stakeholders, both friendly and antagonistic, as described in my TEDx, “Adversaries to Allies.”
Our sister nonprofit Global Citizens Circle has hosted tens of thousands around the world in civil discourse among diverse, intergenerational, cross-sectoral participants to find sustainable solutions and create constructive change.
Approaching its 50th anniversary, please consider donating to ensure that future dialogues will always be free to everyone everywhere.
I hope all of us will thrive in 2022. I’d love to hear your thoughts on how to create mutually supportive connections at this time of deep divisions. For now, whatever your tradition, my warmest wishes for a joyous holiday season and a brighter 2022! – Nadine
